August 8th, 2023 Aris Marine is in active discussions with various stakeholders, including local government authorities in Shengsi, Zhoushan, to explore the possibility of investing in a 20,000 sqm production facility. This state-of-the-art facility will be dedicated to the manufacturing of Onboard Carbon Capture Systems (OCCS), a cutting-edge solution aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from trading ships. The initiative aligns with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) GHG Emissions Strategy, which sets ambitious targets: A 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030, with efforts toward a 70% reduction by 2050. A 50% reduction in total annual GHG emissions by 2050. As global shipping faces growing pressure to meet international emissions targets, different strategies for reducing GHG emissions are being explored. Post-combustion OCCS technology is emerging as a promising solution, particularly for vessels where alternative fuels may not be feasible. By capturing and storing carbon emissions onboard, this system can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of ships, offering a viable way to meet emissions reduction goals. Aris Marine’s planned OCCS production facility in Zhoushan represents a forward-looking investment in sustainable maritime technologies. Once operational, it will position Aris Marine at the forefront of innovation in carbon capture for the shipping industry, contributing to global efforts in the fight against climate change. We remain committed to fostering collaborations with local authorities and industry partners to ensure that this project meets the highest standards of environmental sustainability and technological excellence. This facility will play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable shipping and supporting the maritime sector’s transition toward a greener future.
